"Inspired" By My Kitchen Counter

My kitchen counter caused me to lose it yesterday.

Well, it was kinda like "the straw that broke the camel's back."

I started getting everyone ready at 10am. We were going to the mall to return/exchange a few Christmas items. I begged Manga Dork out of bed, laid out clothes for the 2 littles to put on, took my shower and got dressed, woke Dr. Hubby, ironed Dr. Hubby's shirt, woke Dr. Hubby, fixed 2 littles' hair, woke Dr. Hubby, prepared the returns, woke Dr. Hubby....I think you see the pattern.

I wanted to leave at noon. The mall is a little over an hour drive and everything closes at 6pm on Sunday.

He waited til 12:15pm to get up. I lost it.

"LOOK AT THIS HOUSE. I CLEANED ALL DAY YESTERDAY. I WAS SO TIRED LAST NIGHT AND LOOK AROUND. IT DOESN'T EVEN LOOK LIKE I DID ANYTHING. THIS KITCHEN COUNTER IS A DISASTER. NO ONE WILL THROW AWAY THEIR TRASH. THEY JUST SIT IT ON THE COUNTER EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A 30 GALLON TRASH BAG RIGHT BELOW WHERE THEY SAT IT. IT IS SO HARD TO LIVE LIKE THIS. IT IS SO STRESSFUL. I FEEL LIKE I REALLY TRY AND IT IS POINTLESS. I AM CALLED GROUCHY AND HATEFUL BECAUSE I "NAG" ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE IN THIS HOUSE DOING STUFF. I AM BUTTING MY HEAD AGAINST A BRICK WALL. and so on and so forth....

He went to get ready and I made lunch. We went to town, returned the stuff, bought some other stuff, grocery shopped, and I juggled Burger King in the car for dinner so we could make it home in time for bedtimes on a school night.

This is an example of why I am on a mission to be a better housewife. But I have a warning for the other 4 people living in our home...IT'S GONNA GET UGLY. I have some retraining to do.

Happy Monday!
Tomorrow I will share how I have changed my bad attitude toward ironing!

  1. Good Luck, btw, ironing is my favorite, I'd rather iron than anything else. I hate washing dishes even though I now have a dishwasher, I still hate the dishes.

  2. Gigi...dishes are my second least fave thing! Thank God for dishwashers!

  3. I've gotten to the point where I don't actually hate doing the dishes. I would rather do the dishes than empty the dishwasher, actually.

  4. I see your point and feel your pain.
My youngest son moved back home and I am pretty sick of seeing the same site.

I sorta had a meltdown too. I felt a little better and it's worked so far too.

My hubs is a total clean freak. I'm lucky that way.

  5. Go for it mom..you have the role and the will to do so and they need to be taught! I read about a mom once that was in the kitchen fixing dinner, no help, looked in the joining room to see all her kids lounging around. She went in there with a broom, calling the lazy, lounging lizards! Swatted away their toys and stuff. They went right into help her, laughing but they helped. It was a soft lesson and it worked! LOL

  6. Why do we get called the nag just for telling them to pick up after themselves?? I don't get it! I routinely lose it, usually after telling them for the third or fourth time to clean up. And then they wonder why I am yelling!

  9. I know how you feel! Then "they" say... gee why are you grumpy, grouchy, bitchy, moody, etc. when all I really feel is overwhelmed which makes me grumpy, moody, crabby, grouchy, bithchy etc.!

I started leaving lists of things for Countrychick to do for me and that really helps out and hubby has started to run the vacuum on the weekends, so I give him kuddos for that, but there is room for improvement!!

Hang in there and give'em some tough love!

  10. Yeah it happens at my house too!
I tell you something though I would have gone to town and done the shopping by myself - time alone = less frustration. I would have also left a list of stuff for the kids and the hubs to do while I was gone! You gotta learn the tricks baby :-D

  13. I feel ya. I hate when the house is immaculate and everyone gets home from school/work and just dump their crap everywhere. It's worse in the winter w/coats and boots.

I lost it the other day. I think it was because I had a cold. And when mom is sick, no one takes care of her. I let my husband have it. Poor guy.
