Plant Identification

Our new home's previous owner, Maguy, loved plants and flowers and trees and herbs and gardens. All of this is so definitely out of my comfort zone, BUT I am intrigued and hoping I have found a new hobby. I am determined to keep her plants beautiful. In order to do this I must know what they are. Here are two...

I love the orange flowers on this bush. So tiny. It is growing all around my purple clematis.

This is a tree. I thought the large leaves were interesting and then these little brownish things popped up with round things on the end. THEN each little round thing popped out a small flower. I have never seen anything like it.

So far I have figured out rhododendrons, bleeding hearts, humulus lupulus {hops}, roses, and purple clematis. I have also identified peach trees, blueberry bushes, grapes, and blackberry bushes. Dr. Hubby said he believes there is some peppermint in there too. Maguy had several herbs. Holy Moly! I hope I don't accidentally pull out something important.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give my black thumb...lol.

Those looks so pretty. It is going to be so much fun for you. How exciting!

That will be great to have your in-laws so close. Hope your FIL is improving every day.

I'm a plant idiot, so sorry, no help.

the orange one is commonly called butterfly weed or butterfly milkweed, but it is not a weed. so don't pull it out, and it is a perrennial, it will come back year after year.

and yes it attracts butterflies!

Thank you Dana! Can't wait for all the butterflies!

I'm not sure what the tree is, but wait till it goes thru the season and see if the little flowers turn to seed pods, that might help you identify it.

oh and you will know if you are pulling out herbs, cause they will give off a strong scent when you grab them! one good way to test is crunch a few leaves in your fingers and then smell, but avoid doing this with poison ivy, be sure to learn to identify it.

and only because you are new to gardening and have little ones, but learn which plants attract snakes, they love blackberries I've been told. and they also love to hide under vines and ground covers such as mint. and anywhere there is decomposing material such as junipers.

don't mean to scare you, but just to be careful.

Don't worry Dana. I am already freaked out about snakes! We cut one up with the mower and a friend spotted a black snake near the old house we have to tear down. We are being extra careful since no one has lived in the home for almost a year too.

I am no help identifying plants but I love that plant in the first picture. We saw those when we were visiting another state a few years ago and fell in love. So cute they look like little stars.

How exciting you are going to learn so much. There might be some tragedies along the way, but that's just part of the process.
