The Verdict Is In

Gavel Pictures, Images and Photos

Thursday night at TOPS {Taking Off Pounds Sensibly} I hopped on the scale...well, actually I slowly crept onto it...and my weight was 226.25. I have kept off 4.75 pounds of the 25 I lost over the summer. Yikes!

I guess I thought it was so much fun that I would do it again!

I have 44 weeks to lose 95.25 pounds...that is 2.17 pounds per week. It is doable...and not that unhealthy of an amount....BUT I am going to have to work my butt off {literally}.

Wish me luck.

{For those of you wondering...TOPS is a group that meets weekly similar to Weight Watchers. They are international. The price is around $25 to join and then around 50 cents to $1 per week dues. There is no specific diet though they recommend food exchanges.}

That's a pretty lofty goal. I used to hang on a weight loss message board (3fat chicks) and it seems that the people who put a timeline on it are the LEAST likely to succeed. I assume it's because they are focusing on changing enough to meet the goal instead of focusing on the change itself.

I've done the 'lose 20 lbs. and gain it back' several times. 18 months ago I tried a new approach. My goal was to do the LEAST I possibly could and still see a loss on the scale each week. My only time goal was to STILL be eating well in a year- still working on it. There is no end point so what's the hurry?

I lost 35 lbs. slowly. I kept it off for many months. I have had a regain now because of that baking phase I went through from Oct.-Dec. but it was just 8 lbs. and I've lost 3 of those already. I've NEVER maintained a weight loss before in my life- NEVER! Now I am in high gear again with weight loss but instead of being back at 'start' as I've always been in the past- I'm STILL down the road. My goal now is to drop another 35 lbs. then hold steady while I decide how much more needs to come off. Consider a focus shift when maintaining whatever amount you lose, even if it's small, is the top priority. Just 'food' for thought.

Go check out the 'maintainer's forum' at 3fat chicks and you'll see what I mean. I'm trying to learn from the successful people there and it's a whole differnet mindset than I've had in the past.

Go Scrappy go!

I gained 8 pounds over the holidays because I gave in and ate whatever I wanted (cheeseball & crackers for breakfast), but have taken it back off. You can do it! I'm hoping for another 15.

(And good question, why can't it be floors and plastic surgery - lol)

I lost 70 pounds over the course of a year, but I didn't have a goal and no timeline.

I think you need to find what works for you.

Good luck!

Set a goal for each day and that will take the stress off the "big" goal. Once you meet the days goal, you can then work on the next days, etc. YOU CAN DO IT! It is all about healthy lifestyle changes. And don't worry if you get off track one day, you can make up for it the next by doing better. I'm proud of you and most importantly, you should be PROUD of Yourself! (((((BIG HUGS)))

Good luck. I am sure you can do it, if you stay focused. I am currently taking the "small steps" approach to losing the 50 pounds I need to lose.

Wishing you good luck. Been on the yo-yo loose/gain cycle since I was 16. Kept it off in the beginning until I got pregnant and that was the end of that. From then on, I was always fighting to stay a decent weight. Just say NO on those cravings. LOL I say no but those cravings are telling me YES> its a constant fight but I plan on winning and you will too.

Hugs,

My goal is to lose my 50 pounds this year. I started the first part of December. I really haven't adjusted my eating yet.... My first step was to go to the gym regularly. I go 3 - 4 times a week right after work. Luckily my employer has a gym so I go before I even leave the building. If I went home first I would never go back. I have a desk job so I sit for 9 hours a day... I've lost 7 pounds since December 1st just by adding exercise. It also helps that my employer has added incentive to get the office fit... If we work out 10 hours a month we get a $25 gift card, 15 hours - $50 and 20 hours - $75. We can earn this each month. My goal is 15 hours a month... My next step is to do some small changes in my eating habits. It's hard... and I try to convince myself everyday with 100 reasons not to go to the gym but I'm doing it... :) Good luck! I'll be thinking of you
