If Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness...

...then we're in BIG trouble!

March must be right around the corner...because I am getting the itch...the itch to clean...the itch to paint...the itch to organize!
Our home starts to feel cluttered and dusty and chaotic. I open drawers and see a million things I want to donate. I dream of organizing and...

cleaning everything from the inside out! I am also very organized in how I go about spring cleaning. I try to spread it out so I don't become overwhelmed. I want to finish by the week before we go to visit Lil Sis and BIL. I count up how many rooms I have (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, laundry, family, kitchen, entry, hallway, dining). That is 11...so I need 11 weeks. That means I have to start March 1st. Then in each week I write down what I want to complete each day.
Example: Master Bedroom (Mon.) closet (Tues.) armoire (Wed.) dresser (Thurs.) under bed (Fri.) Wash all bed linens and curtains (Sat.) Finishing touches
I also try to take a good look at each room and make a list of "Honey Do" jobs and/or things that I could do or buy to make life a little easier (Put up new curtain rod, add laundry hamper, etc.)

Text ColorHow do you do your spring cleaning?

THAT is a very good system. So Flylady-esque. I got a spring cleaning itch last fall and we did it then but we'll need to go at it again this spring.

I mostly want to paint. I am a serial painter. I hate having walls that have that 'not so fresh' look! The kids' rooms are the worst with paint so I guess I'll adopt your system but include painting.

I have the itch too. But I'm not as organized about it as you are. I start out in one room doing one thing, then as I put something away in another room I realize something that needs to be done there, and start to tackle it, then remember I was already working on the first room, and by the time the day's over I have 5 rooms partially started.

That's a great example to follow. I start to write everything down and it all soon feels so overwelming. I have often thought if I just took one room each week and gave it a deep cleaning I would eventually get it all done. In reality I can hardly stay caught up with the everyday task.

well, Steve has allergies pretty bad, so I find I have to keep curtains washed pretty regularly. But I do look for little half-done things to finish up, like pictures that never got reframed and rehung. I get that toss it or donate it bug, and I usually pick one BIG thing to do. Like I think this spring it gonna be the garage. ugh! Hopefully before hot weather gets here. I also want to redo the laundry room. Edie inspired me.

But mostly, I don't give myself a deadline, but rather just try to constantly be moving towards improving things. But then I am never really finished.

I LOVE your pictures! The one in the dryer cracked me up! maybe you should come out so you can get your list done! LOL
And I got the itch so bad...it always happens when I'm not at home though, and so when I get home, I just ignore it!
Maybe March will be different! LOL

I am itching too. It must be in the air. All that dust is going around causing women to rise up and purge and sparkle. Love your idea of writing it down. You always seem to know how to kick me in the rear.

Get up off of that thing....

That's how I plan on spending a big majority of my winter break this week....DEEP CLEANING. After we take my mother to the mall today, we get serious. All the rooms and closets get a good once over...all the junk that's piled up in the guest room will get moved down the hall to the bonus room till I figure out what to do with it - and we are even going to tackle our two car garage...cuz it is a living nightmare and I can't stand it anymore.... I just have to make sure Hubs doesn't figure out it's on "The List". Good luck to you - I'll be checking in to see how you're doing!
