Thou Shalt Not Weigh More Than The Refrigerator

At my TOPS weigh in yesterday evening I was hoping for just one measley little pound so I could say I had lost 20 pounds...I'm all about those "divisible by 5" numbers. Well I lost 3/4 of a pound...I am 1/4 of a pound away! LOL! This totally bugs my organized brain for some reason...I like nice normal round numbers...I feel "off." I am such a nerd.

During my visit to my parents' home I got to spend about an hour with my grandparents. They are both SO focused on my FAT! My grandpa has even offered me $1,000 to lose 50 pounds! They always ask me how much I have lost...they have started doing Manga Dork this way too. I hate it. Well, during this visit my grandma said a sentence that has haunted me. She said, "Sometimes I just sit and look at your wedding picture and cry." What?! Now that is pretty talented...not only does my fat depress me...it depresses my grandma. I guess I can check that off my to do list...she is crying over my fat for me! Gee!

i really wish people understood how damaging words can be. i hope you intervene when your grandparents try to say those type of things to your daughter. in fact, i hope you will start speaking up when they say those types of things to YOU!

you are beautiful. just how you are right now (and i'm sure you were lovely on your wedding day too). i think you're making great progress at TOPS, but please don't let anyone put a value on you based upon your success there. not even yourself.

have a great weekend!

I know what you mean about those fat comments. I think older people forget and just say whatever pops in their head.
I think you are doing a great job on the weightloss. Keep up the good work!

Been there done that! So sorry that they don't get it. Protect your daughter and protect YOU.

If granny has nothing better to do than live in the past of other people then it sounds like she needs to get off her behind and get a life.

Hugs to ya! Maybe we should make shirts - I'm F.A.T. - Fabulous And Terrific or Fiesty And Timeless.

Wow!! Seriously?? Seriously?? That is so uncool! I know she's grandma and it wouldn't be cool to bitch her out, but it would take everything I had not to. My parents have done the same thing to me too, and it sucks. I wish they wouldn't start picking at your daughter's self-esteem like that though, that's just really mean. Girl, you are fabulous and don't you let anyone take them away from you! Your losing weight to be healthier which is what matters, and whatever anyone else thinks is irrelevant.

Ok, I was going to send you hate mail since you hate toe socks, but I've changed my mind since I've seen what you've been dealing with, and because you do like Ronan Keating too. LOL just kidding! *Sending you love and hugs*

I am so proud of your progress! Ignore everything else and just focus on the good about you- I know it is hard sometimes. One thing I have always wanted to do in my family is have a 'cheer me up jar' for each of us. In it we would put nice comments about each other and any time we got a compliment from someone else we could write it up and add it to the jar- when depression or sad says come up we can read and focus on the good.

Hang in there and shrug off Grandma's blunt manipulations.. She does mean well, but it sucks how it feels her love is conditional. *hugs*

Oh.my.goodness!! That is so awful, and so damaging. I hope you don't let it get to you, although words from family you love can be the hardest to shake. Just know that your value and self worth have nothing to do with a number on the scale! There is so much in today's society that will tell you you are more important, more valuable and more loveable if you are "skinny". It's simply madness, and simply not true. We come in all shapes and sizes. Try not to let other people's heartless comments get to you. Love yourself. And remember that daughters look to their mom to teach them body-image confidence.
Hugs,
Linda

I had pizza for breakfast and now every blog I open is talking about diets. Conscience, leave me alone!

Oh no! Well, they should realize it is really hard to lose weight and that you are doing your best! Grrr, I hate those comments and the guilt that plagues. You can do it!

geez grandma! i can't believe she actually cries when she looks at your wedding pic. you should give her something to really cry about.

You're doing it for you which is the only reason it should be done! You have lost 20 lbs. You should be ecstatic. Look at it this way, ignore the old people, lose the weight you want, and when you hit your target, and if it just happens to be 50 or pass 50, call the old people and collect your grand as an added bonus! You'll have added bliss because you obtained your own personal goal, and lots of new scrap stuff. :) JK Very proud of you!

That is sooooooooooo funny!! The picture cracks me up.

I'm so sorry that your Grandma said that to you. :( Words are so hurtful. Please try to forget them! I wish I could give you a big hug.

These cat pics are the best--never fail to make me smile!

So hard to have family say hurtful things like that. Like somehow them saying something will change everything and next time they see you you will be 100 pounds lighter. Sorry--I'm a little bitter!
You are doing awesome with your diet--hang in there!
