Vacation Preparation?

Our New Orleans trip is only 20 days away, and I am very excited about exploring a new city! If you vacation with me the one tip I can give you is "bring good walking shoes." I want to see and do and experience everything the location has to offer. I love all the little details (seeing both cornstalk fences)...all the cliche things that come to mind when you think of the location (eating at Cafe Du Monde and taking the streetcar)...all the unexpected "vacation candy" (stepping over a drunk on Bourbon Street and capturing paranormal activity in a photo during a ghost tour). I love it ALL!

When I have time to prepare for a trip I am very organized. I start by searching the internet and making a favorites folder for the city. I begin my search with "Top Ten Things To Do In..." and "Best Things To Do In..."

I search our library for videos and books. A fun book to check out is the "Weird State Name" series. Thanks to "Weird New York" I knew to go to a section of Grand Central Station and Dr. Hubby and I whispered "I love you" into the columns and we could hear each other from across the hall...vacation candy!

I use a small notebook to take notes from the computer, books, and videos. I make lists...lists...and more lists. All the planning allows me to stick as much into my time as possible. I am very efficient. I love the preparation almost as much as I love the trip! The trick is not to plan so tightly that you don't have time for the unexpected...leave some leisure time each day.

How do you prepare for a trip?

I'm thinking you should plan all my trips from now on.

how fun about that weird NY book!

I make a huge check-list...down to every last detail...and cross it off as i put it in the bag....for each person! i don't like to forget anything!....like cell phone chargers, toothbrushes, DS games and chargers....I don't cross it off the list until it is secure in the bag!

I plan an outline, but let the chips fall as they may, when I finally get there. If it's brand new place? I rely on locals to tell me good spots.

I'm still going to tell you that I will worry about you every second you are in New Orleans! : )

I think we must be twinners in this area Scrappy. I am the ultimate trip planner and I absolutely LOVE to plan the trip as much as going on it. Family and friends have come to rely on me to find all the best places to go and to make the itinerary for any trip!! Love it!

I love reading and seeing all your fun vacation travels. You do sooooo many fun things - all because you plan soooo well...

When I grow up I want to travel like you -- all planned, good shoes and savoring each moment. I am sure you will have a wonderful time!

If you love the preparation so much you should also try a travel packing checklist before you travel, there are always items you don't want to forget.
