Baby You Can Drive My Car

Growing up in a junkyard, cars have always been a part of my life. Here's my story in cars...

I got my license at 17 (my parents thought 16 was too young). My dad has NEVER bought a NEW car. My mom has driven more cars than most people ever will. Dad is always "fixing up" another one. She has driven everything from a 1963 Pontiac Catalina (I was in Junior High and I rode in the floor a couple times because I was so EMBARRASSED!) to a Mercedes.

This is a page out of my senior year scrapbook. This is an 70 something Oldsmobile Omega. I HATED this car, but it was either it or ride the schoolbus. It was very fast and had a great VROOOOOMM. For some reason my parents put a Runaway Hotline bumper sticker on it. My locker partner, Jason Robinette, said, "I'd run away too if my parents made me drive that car." HaHa!

For graduation I dreamed of a Toyota Celica (I got $1000 for graduation)...Dr. Hubby's parents bought him a Ford Ranger (we still have it). I got a $75 red sports car. The alternator went out in the "bad" part of town one night...Dad came with his wrecker truck.

Then Dad gave me a Buick Skyhawk...which he painted SMURF BLUE (he even created matching hubcaps). While I was in labor with Manga Dork I mentioned I wanted a 4-door car so it would be easier to get the baby in and out of the car. He sold SMURFY while I was in the hospital and bought a wrecked Buick Skylark at an auction.

I went one year without a car...then the Skylark was finished. It was a nice car. The first one I really liked...less than a year later Manga Dork and I hit a guard rail. It was totaled (we were fine).

Soooo...my inlaws helped Dr. Hubby and I purchase a used Ford Taurus...my first off a car lot. I could have picked almost anything but I was so overwhelmed I let Dr. Hubby choose. It was a good car. I backed it into a post at a gas station and then a lady swiped me on the same place...Dad painted it.

When Dr. Hubby started his residency he took me and let me test drive every car I wanted to test drive...he was so patient...HE wanted to buy ME my FIRST brand new car. That made me feel SO good...I test drove everything from a VW bug to a Jeep Wrangler. I chose a white Ford Explorer. I took great care of that SUV...most of the oil change receipts are still in the dashboard.

When we got Foster Son we had officially "outgrown" it so we started looking for something that could seat 7...
That is when I got my Escalade....I love it. I call it THE WHITE PEARL(I love Pirates of the Carribean and the color is called Pearl). My MIL has my Explorer.

THE END (for now)
What was your first car? What do you drive now? What is your dream car?

that is one AWESOME suv!!

good for you for sticking it out thru all the beaters - you finally got a sweet ride!

we were the same way when i was growing up... my dad never wanted to buy a brand new car - he didn't want the payment. so instead there was the inevitable, random breakdown you had to pay for instead!

I was hooked from--"growing up in a junkyard"! Smurf blue--wow. My parents gave me a big white boat to drive in highschool- a chevy I think. Car brands and names are a blur to me. When I got engaged to my hubby he had a stick shift--I spent way too many nights in the church parking lot trying to learn how to drive a stick!! I kept thinking he was never going to marry me if I couldn't get it! Right now I have a Sport Red 2007 Tahoe. It is so wonderful but I immediately backed into one of our 4 wheelers and my husband hasn't got it fixed yet--I think its a reminder--either that or he has just given up. Great post!!

First car was a Ford Lynx. Dark blue, hatch back, full of grimlins that would do weird things to the car...I could even start it without a key.

Second car was some old ugly Chevy thing that my mom won at an auction where she worked. It served its purpose and got me around.

Married Hubby, he drove a Dodge pickup....very loud truck, all cowboy truck!!!

Next came our first new truck. I didn't drive it for six months because hubby thought I would wreck it or something....Men...geeshe!

Hubby's grandmother gave me her blue Ford Tempo when she could no longer drive. I loved that little car, it was great and you could drive FOREVER on a tank of gas. Then it died and we could not get parts for it......very sad!

Mom gave me her car when they bought a new one. Mercury Grand Marquee, ran like a champ, but didn't handle the gravel roads to well. Almost died from exhuast leaking into the car from large hole in muffler...didn't know it was there....caused by gravel roads! That car was parked and I drove our other Ford truck until hubby got tired of me racking up miles on it...not my fault I live in the middle of nowhere........

So he bought me my current car three years ago, it is a Ford Expedition, burgundy red in color. Love it and so did the mice....they moved in and made a home!! I ousted them and the car is mine once again.......

I am lusting after your White Pearl Escalade!! Sweeet ride!

My first car was a 1986 volkswagan jetta. It was silver and had no power steering and its own way of changing gears. No one else could drive her except me..she was tempermental. I now drive a 2004 silver Toyota Matrix. I bought it on my own before marriage etc..so proud of it! It's a good car, no problems and works perfect when you have a baby..lots of room! However I still want something heavenly like your escalade!

P.S I started reading Twighlight and am addicted!!...and so in love with Edward Cullen!!!

Let's see...my first car was supposed to be a red escort - the car that I wanted at that time - but the dealer sold it out from underneath us... so I ended up with a Dodge Aries. Blue. At least it had a cassette deck. Duran Duran sounded good as long as you could play the cassette!
When I graduated from high school I bought a black Camaro (Iroc engine baby) with t-tops. It was awesome and probably a lot more power than my parents should have allowed me to purchase. But I loved it and the new car smell!
Next, when The Doodlebug was about 6 months old, I decided to get something with 4 doors... so I bought a Buick Century. Sandstone color. Good car. Good gas mileage but totally not 'me'. I loved it though and when I sold it and bought my van, I was a little sad.
The van is what we were looking for, but I seriously thought I'd only keep it a for a few years. I think I've had it 3 years now... ?
When we were married, The UIC had a Jeep Wrangler and a huge Silverado. I could drive the truck, but not the Jeep. I was glad when he sold that stupid thing! Now he has another truck - I don't think he'll ever drive a 'car'.
Good topic - smurfmobile indeed!

Beautiful SUV! I love the color. Iridescent, like Edwards skin...winkwink!

My first car was a beater...1967 Dodge Dart. It was huge and ate through 3 quarts of oil a week! My next one was a beautiful sky blue 1972 Chevy Malibu. The AC even worked. I rode it hard and put it up wet. Then I moved onto my first brand new car...1987 Grand Am! Then 12 years later our Van...Dodge Caravan. Can wait to get rid of it. Not to sure about want I want next...but I'll think of something. Maybe a mini cooper, their so cute!

My first car was a Yellow Volkswagon Bug. I bought it when I got my first job at 16. It was alot of fun. My favorite word was CREEP so my mom had custom plates made for it that said CREEP. My 2nd car was a brand spankin new Honda Civic. I had it for my senior year. Thats all it lasted, too. I was rear ended a couple of days after graduation. My friend was grounded but her parents said we could hang out at her older brothers house. We snuck out.. downtown to cruz the loop! The guy hit a car two behind me and I hit the car in front of me. It totated my car :( If he would have hit us directly it probably would have killed us.
I then got a subaru and had it for about 4 years. I then got a Toyota 4 runner which I had until I bought my new Sonata 3 years ago. My youngest daughter now drives the 1991 4Runner.
